Are you planning a move for 2020? Whether that move occurs in March or in September, a New Years Resolution built around your move can make the chore much less stressful. We thought of a few resolutions that are actually attainable and that will make your move easier once the day comes.
This is the year to…Keep Fewer Things.
While the minimalist movement may not be for you, there is a benefit to evaluate what you truly need and what is simply taking up space in your home. Pairing down your possessions will help declutter. With the influx of gifts during the holiday season, it can be beneficial to go through your belongings at the first of the year. Then, continue this resolution with a new rule. For each new material object you gain, you give one to charity. This will not only help you keep your home tidy and keep possessions from taking over, but when you are ready to move you will have fewer items to pack!
This is the year to…Gift Experiences.
One resolution you may have is to gift experiences instead of materials. Your niece may not need another doll house, but a membership to a local zoo may be the perfect gift! This goes with the resolution mentioned above – helping others keep clutter out of their home can help you, too! In return, you may get a gift card for a nice dinner on your birthday instead of another picture frame!
This is the year to…Save for Your Move.
If you are planning to move, we urge you to plan to utilize a moving company (preferably us!). Trust us, it is worth the cost. We will help east the stress and transition to allow you to get back to life after your move much more quickly. If you are worried about the cost of the move, try planning for it in advance. If you are not moving until summer or fall, you will have six to nine months to save – put money away each week into a fund specifically for moving costs. If you save more than what the moving company ended up costing you, you’ll have a little bit of cash to use toward something else!
This is the year to…Save Boxes.
Amazon Prime Member? We know you have those boxes coming to you on a pretty regular basis…so start saving them! P.S. if you order a prime pantry order those usually come in one large box – perfect for packing! Even the small boxes are helpful – pack smaller items in these then place into a larger box when it comes time to move!
This is the year to….Get Organized!
That closet, that room…that garage…there are so many areas of our home that are prone to becoming disorganized and dysfunctional. Don’t let your space be wasted by objects! Clean and organize these areas throughout the year. When you are ready to move, this will make packing much easier!
