The BBB recently released a report citing over 13,000 complaints nationally when it comes to moving companies. Some of the complaints listed outline price gouging, destruction of goods, as well as stolen possessions. This can certainly make someone cautious about using a mover, so be sure to do your research before hiring the job. Follow the outline below to get a better understanding of the mover you plan to hire.
do your research
A reputable moving company should be accredited with the BBB, and their rating should give you a good idea on the type of business they perform. We are accredited with the BBB and hold an A+ rating. You can verify that here.
Be sure to look for a physical address. This can most easily be seen on the business website. Verify that the address listed is truly a place of business. Our office is located at 1313 Ravine Road in Kalamazoo, and you are welcome to stop in at any time during our office hours.
Read reviews to see if customers are satisfied with the value of their move. Check reviews on the BBB website, Yelp, Google, social media, and anywhere else that you can find them! Understand that accidents happen and while you may see a poor review, check into whether the company made the problem right. At Mulder’s Moving, we value our customers and want to make moving as stressless as possible. We send follow up emails to each of our clients to give us feedback on how their move went. If there was an issue, we strive to make it right. We even ask clients if our estimate was reasonably close to the actual job cost – that is a big deal to us! Our salesman want to be sure that their quotes are honest, fair and accurate.
Opt for in person estimates. While we are currently doing virtual visits in the interest of keeping everyone safe throughout the pandemic, our preference is to conduct on-site estimates. This helps us with accuracy in our quotes. If a company refuses to meet with you in person (or an in-person video virtual estimate) you probably need to look for another company.
Support local
While large franchise operations may seem safe, try looking into your locally owned businesses. For example, Keith and Cindy Benthin own Mulder’s Moving and Storage. They are heavily involved in the business and the community, and they have built the same integrity and honesty that they value into their business plan. The business mission statement even explains this!
To be a company of excellence and integrity by taking care of our employees and customers. We will strive to give back to our community and leave it better than we found it.

Confirm your move date. Give the company a call in advance to confirm your move date. If they can’t tell you which date you are moving by your name, this can be a big red flag. Our move coordinator will be in touch with you throughout the process to be sure you feel confident and comfortable before, during, and after your move date!
By doing your research you can feel confident that you are hiring a reputable, reasonable and honest moving company for your job.
