We refer to our small boxes as “book boxes” – for good reason! Heavy items, like books, cans, hand tools, etc should go in a smaller box. The smaller boxes will have more strength to hold the items. In addition, always support the bottom of the box. The last thing you want is for the bottom of the box to fall apart when you lift it up!
When you pick up a heavy box, use your knees – not your back! Imitate a squat and use your core and legs to help you lift the box. Bending over to pick up one heavy box may not seem like a big deal, but when you repeat it twenty times it will put stress on your back and could have you feeling sore the next morning!
As you can infer, your lighter items are going to go into bigger boxes. Linens, towels, and toys all fit into this category.
I’m going to be moving. It makes sense that I would want to use small boxes for heavy objects! That way I don’t have to worry about lifting a massive box full of heavy things. It’s better to handle them incrementally!
