Strategy counts when it comes to packing! Taking care to properly pack and label your boxes is crucial to a successful move and unpack.
Be sure to use a thick stroke permanent marker and label the top and all of the sides of the box. This way the labels can still be seen even when the box is stacked, and from all angles.
First, label the contents that the box holds on the outside of the box. This will allow you to know what is in the box at a glance instead of needed to dig through it. Packing alike items will make your labeling easier and more broad. For example, if you place all of your vases in one box, you can label simply “vases.” If you packed some vases in a box with a few books and collectibles, you would have a tougher time labeling this quickly.
Next, label if the box has breakable contents and if it should remain upright. Do this by writing “fragile” on the box and using an upward arrow to indicate proper orientation. The fragile label, too, should be on ALL sides.
If you have several boxes with similar contents, number the boxes. For example, “1 of 4.” This can also be done if you want to number all the boxes that belong to a single room. That way you know you are not forgetting a box. Lastly, indicate the room that each box should be placed in. This makes it easier for you or your movers to take the box directly to the room in which is belongs saving you time and energy.
